Ma Maison
Its been quite a while since I blogged about food, but here it is; Ma Maison @ Bugis.
Ma Maison is a concept from Japan as a rustic and cosy diner.
It was a month ago when this restaurant was published on newspaper. So parents decided to go there to try the much and highly rated items.
As a side note before I actually start talking about the food there, things and food reviews on the newspapers may or may not be accurate, IT’S MOSTLY YOUR PERSONAL TAKE ON THE PLACE ITSELF.
Upon arrival at Ma Maison, which was around 6pm in the evening, the place was already full house and we waited about 15 minutes for us to be seated. I must say that the service left an image as “much more to be desired”. We flipped through the menu and it offered a variety of, I must say, popular and sellable items from Japan. Things like Hamburgers, Paella, Gratins, Pastas and not forgetting Japanese food.
In my non-condescending opinion, I really see no direction of the concept in Singapore as Singapore is able to attract and offer authentic Italian, French and Japanese cuisine. On contrary, Ma Maison offers all of these items that can be found in their diner. So if you’re looking for an “all-in-one” Ital-French-Jap experience you can probably head over.
Things that we are were:
Starters:
Baby Potato Gratin (picture not shown)
Escargots with a Garlic Herb butter sauce:

Main Courses:
Beef Straganoff with Buttered Rice
Beef Hamburger with Brown Sauce (Signature dish)
Seafood Paella
Boneless Garlic Chicken Chop

The Opinion:
The starter was alright but please please, do not order the potato gratin. The Escargots were just very garlickly and for those who have not had Escargots, imagine them like mushrooms as they have the texture of a mushroom. =)
I feel that the Beef Straganoff was the best among all the the above main courses and it also looks the best from the picture. The beef was tender, but the sauce was a little salty for me.
Next is the Hamburger which was their signature dish. I must say, with the correct blend of meat and seasoning, this can be easily done at home. Of course with practice. Nothing really special about this.
The Seafood Paella was horrid in my opinion because of the dried grains of rice that had their moisture forcefully sucked out due to a lack of control over the fire. The mussels resembled a wrinkled old hag while the prawns just reminded me of a dried up p*nis. Enough said.
The garlic chicken, according to my mum was horrid too because of the taste that she did like come to like. I was too busy trying to finish the Paella to have any more food. >.<
